National Novel Writing Month Meet-up

November 22, 2022

Calling all writers: Do you enjoy writing poetry, short stories, or comic books? Do you dream of writing a complete novel? If so, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is for you.

Newton Public Library will host meet-ups for NaNoWriMo participants, every Tuesday evening in November from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

NaNoWriMo is a fun, seat-of-the-pants approach to creative writing. It began in 1999 as a daunting but straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days. Now, each year, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write on Nov. 1, determined to end the month with 50,000 words of a brand new novel.

Novels such as “Water for Elephants,” by Sara Gruen, and “Wool,” by Hugh Howey, began as NaNoWrimo projects. More than 360,000 writers of all ages, skill levels and ambitions have finished first drafts of novels during the month.

Middle-school students, high-school students and adults are invited to join the fun on Tuesdays at the library. Participants may drop in any day, or all five days, to work on writing. During the first part of each session, participants will be invited (but not required) to share their work. After that, we’ll all sit and write together.
