Family Folk Concert with September River

Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets and enjoy some family-friendly folk music in the park outside the library, courtesy of September River (Doug Krehbiel, Jude Krehbiel and Stefanie Giffin).

September River is a family band based in central Kansas consisting of husband and wife Doug and Jude Krehbiel and daughter Stefanie (Krehbiel) Giffin. Their musical styles incorporate elements of bluegrass, gospel, blues, acoustic rock, Irish, and folk. They include both spiritual and secular, original and old familiar songs in their repertoire. September River's sound contains generous helpings of three-part vocal harmonies and a smorgasbord of accompanying instruments such as guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, dulcimer, penny whistle and percussion. They attempt to choose and write songs that are upbeat and inspiring.

Doug and Jude have been performing together as a duet since 1980 and have recorded 10 albums of their original music under the name Road Less Travelled. They have toured across the US and Canada playing for small gatherings and audiences of thousands. They are six time winners of various categories in the Walnut Valley Songwriting Contest, and have appeared on radio and TV. Their Joyful Ditty CD was #2 Album of the Year on NPR affiliate WVPE, Elkhart IN.

Stefanie sang with Doug and Jude off and on for several years before teaming up with them more formally in 2016, mostly helping with songs done in Stef’s church. In 2019 they decided to use the original songs they had been writing for worship services and put together a new debut album with the name of their newly formed trio, September River. The COVID pandemic put things on hold for 3 years but now they are back doing outdoor programs.
