Kids are invited to be picture book creators!

To celebrate Children’s Book Week (Nov. 7-13), Newton Public Library is inviting kids in grades 1-4 to write and illustrate their own picture books!

Who can participate?

Young book lovers in grades 1-4.

What will participants do?

Starting on Monday, November 7, blank booklets will be available for participants to pick up, which will be used for creating their original picture books.

The deadline to return completed picture books is Saturday, December 17. Submissions will be reviewed and featured in a display during the month of January. Everyone who submits an original book will receive a small prize and be recognized at a reception on Saturday, January 14, at 10 a.m.

Are there any guidelines in terms of content or space?

Original books can be about any topic of your choosing. Be creative! Picture books may not exceed the number of pages provided in the blank booklets, but they need not fill the entire booklet.

How can I get started?

Stop by the children’s desk to fill out a simple registration form expressing your commitment to completing your book. Then grab a blank booklet and start creating your stories!
